The Freedom of Non-Resistance
Have you noticed how much energy it takes to fight with life?
We push back against circumstances we didn’t choose, and tighten around emotions we don’t want to feel.
We even tend to resist the very opportunities we’ve prayed for… because they arrive in ways we didn’t expect.
As you may have noticed in your own life, the constant battle is exhausting. And, the harder we fight, the more trapped we feel.
My Turning Point
There was a time in my own journey when I felt like I was swimming upstream every single day, and nothing seemed to flow.
I was tense, gripping, trying to control everything around me… And because of this, the breakthrough came when I was simply too tired to fight anymore.
I stopped pushing. I stopped arguing with “what is.” And in that release, I felt something I hadn’t in a long time… peace.
Almost immediately, the situation I had been wrestling softened. A solution I couldn’t see before revealed itself.
However, it wasn’t because I quit. It was because I let go of the struggle and allowed myself to be carried by something greater.
What Non-Resistance Really Means
Non-resistance doesn’t mean pretending everything is fine… it means you stop layering more pain on top of what’s already happening.
Think of a river. The water doesn’t get stuck arguing with the rocks, it simply flows around them.
Non-resistance is the choice to do the same: to soften your grip, to let life move, and to trust that the current knows where it’s going.
A Practice You Can Use
So, the next time you notice yourself resisting — maybe it’s a hard conversation, an unexpected change, or an uncomfortable feeling—try this:
Notice It – Say quietly to yourself: “I’m resisting right now.”
Breathe – Take three slow, grounding breaths. Soften your shoulders, your jaw, your hands.
Ask – “What would happen if I stopped fighting this, just for a moment?”
Listen – Pay attention to what arises. Often it’s clarity. Sometimes it’s compassion. And sometimes it’s simply relief.
The Takeaway
Resistance drains us. Non-resistance frees us. It creates the space where intuition can be heard, where creativity flows, and where solutions appear.
You don’t have to force life into shape. You can allow yourself to be carried.
