The Season of Change

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how much movement May seems to bring.

My daughter, who is a teacher, is wrapping up another school year. My son just started a new job. And my husband is retiring, which is a major milestone that naturally invites reflection.

We were also invited to a baptism and a graduation close together, and I couldn’t help but notice the symbolism of both. One celebrates new life. The other celebrates readiness for the next chapter.

May has a way of reminding us that life is always moving forward.

Even when nothing dramatic appears to be changing on the outside, many people feel something stirring on the inside this time of year.

A desire for more peace.
Better health.
More meaning.
A simpler life.
A stronger connection to themselves.

Sometimes we think change only counts when it is visible to others, but often the most important changes begin quietly within us.

Life transitions often bring these quiet inner shifts long before anything changes on the outside.

You may feel restless lately.
You may feel inspired.
There may be moments of emotion.
And at times, even a sense of readiness.

All of that can be part of growth.

When Change Feels Uncertain

And I’ll be honest with you, I’ve been living this myself.

Even though I’ve known for a long time that retirement was part of our plan, when the moment came to actually pull the trigger, something in me rumbled.

Fear crept in.

Are we prepared?
Are we ready?
How will life look?
How will our finances shift?
Who are we becoming in this next season?

Change stirs uncertainty, and uncertainty can shake our sense of safety. That is completely normal.

Our nervous system knows what is routine and familiar. So when something new begins to appear, even something we have chosen, it can still feel threatening at first.

Knowing that didn’t make the feeling disappear. It simply reminded me to do what I ask my own clients to do: engage with it.

So I’ve been leaning into curiosity.

Every time my nervous system reacts, I respond with wonder.

What is waiting around this corner?

I am choosing to approach this season the way I would approach an adventure. I am reminding myself of all the times life has pivoted and brought gifts I never could have anticipated.

At every stage of my life, there has been growth.

Not all blossoms and easy days, but growth.

And I’ve learned that what I pay attention to matters enormously. If I look at a situation with resistance, clinging to what was, then I am not truly living. I am simply waiting.

Life is about stepping into the next version of yourself, the one who leaves an imprint of aliveness. Each phase has its own gifts.

Retirement will look a little different for us, and I’ll be sharing more as things unfold. But for now, here is what I believe:

You are not meant to live the same life for 90 years.

You are meant to live 90 years engaged, embracing, and nurturing the newness of each season.

Life Will Nudge You Forward

And if you try to stay in the same life too long, life has a way of nudging you anyway.

I’ve noticed that when we become too comfortable, something begins to call us. We are invited to pivot, reinvent, release, or grow in a direction we may not have seen coming.

It is not punishment. It is an invitation.

I have a friend who tends to resist change, and over the years, I’ve watched how heavy life can feel for her. She sometimes says, “I can’t catch a break. Your life is so easy and mine is so hard.”

She doesn’t ask for advice, and I respect that. But if she ever did, what I would gently offer is this: “Let go, don’t hold the past so tightly. Nothing is meant to remain the same. That is why it is called life.”

So I ask you the same thing I am asking myself:

What are you holding onto that is ready to be released?

Where is life nudging you to be, do, have, give, or create something different?

What Is Changing Within You During Life Transitions?

Where is life feeling heavy right now?

Maybe it is in your work.
It could be in a relationship.
For some, it shows up in health.
Or perhaps in your ability to access joy, calm, peace, or freedom.

Try looking at that situation through a different lens.

Not as something happening to you, but as a signal of where you are being called to grow.

The question is not only, “What is changing around me?”

The deeper question is:

What is changing within me?

Because that is where the next version of your life begins.

And if you are looking for a space to discover clarity, support, and your next aligned step, I am just a call away.

I teach a program called Root & Rise, designed to help you create a life that brings genuine joy, peace, fulfillment, and freedom.
