Life is Speaking to You

Listen to the message in the streak of bad luck

If misfortune seems to follow you, one thing after another. It is time to reflect and see why.

When I was a single mom and divorced for a few years, I experienced a series of auto accidents. I had three rear-impact car accidents.

Initially, I didn’t think much of it and attributed it to bad weather and a streak of bad luck. Then eventually, even my boss asked me to pay attention to what was happening in my life.

Was I moving too fast or too slow in traffic that caused others to rear-end me? Was I not paying attention to the road? What was going on? I had no idea.

Growing in Awareness

There was a commonality with each of the accidents. They were happening within months of each other. Two caused the car to be totaled, high impact, yet I was not injured. All the accidents were caused by a white vehicle hitting me.

Hmm . . . what can I make out of these situations? I certainly did not want them to continue. have you ever had an episode in your life when one thing after another went wrong?

I am grateful for these three accidents; they initiated my awareness that life is speaking to us. There are signs and signals that we are receiving, and staying open to the messages helps us evolve and grow.

Ready and Open to the Message

So, what was life telling me? The Tao Te Ching says, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.”

I was curious and open to understanding what was going on. I was introduced to one of my first spiritual teachers. I shared with her the commonalities of each accident. She asked, “can you recall what you were doing or thinking when the accidents occurred.

I remembered that with each event, around the time of the accident, I was looking at the rear-view mirror, side mirror, or visor mirror. She quickly said, what are you holding on to in life?

She said, you need to let go; you are holding onto something in your life that is no longer useful. God is telling you to move on. She explained that each element I described was a sign I was being nudged to move forward. Looking in the mirror is looking behind me.

She also explained that if I didn’t listen, life situations would escalate until I got it.

Validation of My Life Experience

That statement made sense to me. I had already noticed that if I refused a call I intuitively knew was right, Life lessons would eventually make me listen.

Staying in my marriage longer than I needed was evidence of what she spoke about. Because of my religious upbringing, I held to an idea of marriage that never existed.

Before deciding to divorce, there was so much turmoil and pain that I caused and experienced. And the more I hung on, the more difficult it became to stay in the relationship.

But what about now? Wow! What in the world did I need to let go of? I recalled several things that all had to do with my marriage.

Despite knowing that divorce was the best for my ex and me as a family, couple, and individuals. I still wanted to have that family. I also held on to regret and guilt; as a devout Catholic, I believed marriage was a one-time deal. I was stuck.

Taking Action can be Scary

I was holding on to a version of life that would not help me grow. Logically I knew that, but emotionally I was tied to that part of my life.

And frankly, I was scared. I was afraid to move forward. From the outside, it looked like I had moved forward; I had a new life with my kids. But emotionally, I was holding on.

The best thing was letting go and moving forward with my life. I began to see more and more how I was supported. Opportunities, ideas, people, and experiences allowed me to grow and feel confident.

It all Worked Out

I am a successful single mom who raised two wonderful kids. I because a successful leader in business, and now I am an entrepreneur.

Steve Jobs said it best “You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward. So, you must trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”

As you move forward and face life’s challenges and opportunities, will you trust that there is divine intelligence at work in your life? It may look like a streak of bad luck from the outside, but what message are you guided to pay attention to? What decisions are you being budged to make?

There are no streaks of bad luck, Instead, life is speaking to you, so you will learn and grow into the next version of who you are meant to be.
