Advanced Decision Making

It is critical you become an advanced decision maker if you want to uplevel your life.

What is advanced decision making?

You decide to go on vacation, lose 20 lbs., not procrastinate, be a lot more loving, be less negative, or become a better decision-maker.

These intentions require a firm decision to stick by them and achieve the results. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to follow through with your vacation plans until you make the reservations. You desire to lose weight and need a nutritional or exercise program to move forward. Firm decision-making helps you stay on course with your plans and to move forward.

Self Development

How do you manage the other decisions that require you to act differently? You intend not to procrastinate, become more loving, less negative, and a better decision-maker.

In my experience, these intentions require discipline and understanding your behavior patterns.

Identify your patterns

For example, notice the patterns you have when making decisions. What is a common way for you to be when you are deciding?

›    When you go to a restaurant, do you scan the entire menu before choosing, or do you ask yourself, “What would I love to eat?” then go directly to the place where you have a few choices? Making it a more efficient way of deciding.

›    Or when you are deciding between two alternatives, do you have a pro and con list, or do you use intuition to guide you?

›    Do you tend to ask for others’ opinions before settling on the path?

›    When you make that decision, do you tend to second guess yourself?

Decide to release and adopt

Knowing your patterns will help you avoid them in the future as they present themselves because you’ve made an advance decision. Advance decision-making firms up the energy around you; it sets the course of your destination.

This advanced decision will lead to other decisions about how you will transact differently with life. For example, you tell yourself, moving forward, when I go to a restaurant; I will ask myself, “what do you feel like eating?” and from that impulse or intuition, I will direct my eyes to the part of the menu that offers what I would love, narrow my choices to no more than two and then decide on the one. I stand firm in my decision and do not change my mind.

So, you now have a way to proceed and move forward; you’ve decided how to make future decisions when ordering from a menu.

Adopting new patterns

There is a saying, “How you do anything, it’s how you do everything.”

When deciding, if you tend to go back and forth, indecisive, unsure of how to proceed, the energy around you is wobbly energy with no direction. That lack of moving forward is wasting energy even while deciding.

So, becoming an advanced decision-maker will help you stick to your initiatives for self-development and growth. It is a critical tool to have when you are in the process of upleveling your life.

Decision making about what is possible for you

I have a client navigating a lung cancer diagnosis, and she decided to outlive her prognosis. She has succeeded since she was given six months; now, it is three years later.

Despite her success, she doubts she will ever recover from cancer because, after all, it is a stage-four-cancer diagnosis. She did not make an advance decision to have it go into remission.

She doesn’t believe in her full recovery.

Concentrating on what others say is possible

It’s not her fault; many of us were taught a way of thinking. We compare ourselves with others or look at the statistics; we tend to focus on what is typical instead of knowing that we are more capable than we know and can create our reality.

Somehow the belief system she adopted thinks that people do not recuperate from stage-four cancer.

When I shared with her several examples of people overcoming life-threatening illnesses, including overcoming stage-four cancer, she became aware of her possibilities.

Open to a new possible reality

It is up to her now to make an advance decision that she will thrive in life and transcend the diagnosis by being in remission.

Once she makes that advanced decision, she can then see herself without cancer in her life. She can envision herself being a grandmother with grown grandchildren and living a long, joyful, healthy life.

This decision can be life changing for her. Part of ‘beating’ the illness, is believing it is possible. It’s as if her belief is ignited, and now her prayer is no longer to survive but to thrive in life.

Without her advance decision, her story can’t develop into a happy ending.

Limiting your possibilities

Similarly, it is up to you to see where you limit your possibilities in life. How, when, and where are you limiting your success because of a limiting belief?

Make an advanced decision to thrive and succeed at your goal or dream, regardless of how it appears to the naked eye.

You’ll need to make your advance decision; you’ll need to stick with it.

For example, if you decided to be more positive. Part of what must be done is to examine when you tend to be negative. Is it when particular people surround you or when facing certain situations?

And once you identify your patterns regarding being ‘negative’ in nature, decide what you will give up and what you will adopt. What is the support system you plan to have to become more optimistic? Perhaps it is giving up some friends and befriending more positive people.

Each advance decision leads to examining that part of your life, then identifying ways you are required to release and others you must adopt.

Lifework

Decision-making can be difficult for some of us. Decide that you will take steps to become better at it.

Notice how you make decisions – what are your patterns?

›   What do you have to let go of?

     ›   What must you adopt?

›   What support system can I acquire to succeed?

Notice where you are applying limited thinking or beliefs?

What area(s) of your life be better served by making an advance decision to act or be differently?

Just like when you decide to go on vacation, there are steps to plan the trip, starting with making reservations. What steps are you required to take?

     ›    Identify the area

›    Make the advance decision to change

›    Identify what patterns you must give up

›    Discover what patterns will serve you to adopt

›    What support system can you draw upon to succeed?

Get started on discovering more and more areas where decision-making is the energy you require to uplevel the results you now have in life.
