Did you know you hold the power to transform your life by simply shifting your thoughts? One of the most empowering truths I share with my clients is this: you are a creative being. You have dominion over your thoughts, feelings, and actions—meaning you possess the sovereign power to reshape and transform them. With this power, you can create a life you love.
Awareness Is the First Step
When they start working with me, many struggle with old patterns rooted in their upbringing, believing they are permanent and unchangeable. Clients often tell me, “I grew up in a home where I was criticized or unsupported, and now I find myself falling into destructive habits.” My response? I congratulate them for noticing. Awareness is a major victory because it’s the first step toward transformation. Many people go through life unaware of the programming that drives their choices.
The Good News: You Can Change
Once you’re aware, you have the power to change—and science supports this. The field of neuroscience has proven that our brains are capable of neuroplasticity, meaning they can rewire themselves in response to new thoughts, behaviors, and learning. This adaptability means you’re never stuck—your brain is designed to help you grow, no matter your age or past experiences.
The Power of Mindset
This remarkable capacity for change is the foundation of Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck’s groundbreaking research on motivation and success. In her book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, Dweck explains that our beliefs about our abilities significantly influence our achievements. She differentiates between a fixed mindset—the belief that abilities are static—and a growth mindset, the belief that abilities can be developed through effort, learning, and persistence.
As Henry Ford said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right.” If your current thinking is, “This is too hard,” challenge that belief. Replace it with, “What if this were easy?”
A Personal Story: Mindset in Action
I set a goal to grow my vocabulary by solving The New York Times Connections puzzle daily. At first, I struggled. My thoughts were filled with defeat: “These puzzles are too hard for me.” One day, I had a moment of realization—I noticed that my thoughts were not aligned with growth or solving the puzzle but with giving up. That awareness was my wake-up call.
I decided to reframe my approach. I told myself, “I know the answers. This is simple.” I closed my eyes, visualized connections, and approached each puzzle with a mindset of ease. My results transformed. Now, my streak is 13 days strong—not because the puzzles changed, but because I did.
