Creating an Abundance Mindset

I do not have enough

“I don’t have enough money”, “I don’t have enough energy”, and “I don’t have enough time” are statements we make as we walk with life. It is the mainstream mentality in our world to come from a state of lack. And that way of thinking also affects our self-worth and thinking that we are not enough.

Stephen Covey researched what makes people effective and wrote The 7 habits of Highly Effective People. He discovered that a characteristic of successful people is having an “abundance mindset”. An abundance mindset is about looking at the world with what you do have, not what is missing. Your perception shifts to “I have enough, and I am good enough”

You are not changing the situations, but the way you think about them. For instance, shifting “I don’t have enough money” will not change the amount of money (in the short term) but it will offer a different flow of energy that can lead to better opportunities. You affirm that it is enough to pay your rent, your bills, food, and so on. Yes, it may still not allow for the freedom that you would like but your energy shifts to move with the flow of life.

Adopt an Abundance Mindset

The abundance mindset is an open flow of energy that allows you to see the good and become grateful. Once you are in this flow, you are living from a grateful heart which opens the doors of opportunity to things you may miss otherwise.

Suppose you are looking for a job with a lack mentality; you are thinking “I’m never gonna find the job that I’d like”, or “OMG, look at these jobs, they ask for so much from you and don’t pay enough”, or “I don’t have the skills for this job.” The likelihood of being successful in finding the job you would like is small with this mentality. And if you are in an abundant mindset then you are optimistic about your skillset and the openings that are in front of you. You are likely to see matching opportunities and confidently apply to the jobs that are a good fit.

This is an easy principle to comprehend, yet it can be difficult to practice because we have been trained to look at the lack in our lives, not the abundance that we have. It takes rigor to practice by reminding yourself repeatedly to shift your mindset. It requires you to notice your thinking and feeling as you move through life.

A way to institute this principle in your life is to set the intention as you start new tasks to look at the situation from a different perspective.

My Bill Paying Practice

Because I had the tendency to feel contractive while paying my monthly bills, I decided to change my feeling about that experience to an abundance mindset practice. Instead of looking at each payment as a cost that was depleting my bank account, I started looking at the services that were being provided and being grateful for them and for having the money to pay for them.

When I pay for the utilities, I am thankful for electricity and the experiences it provides like light, and power for my appliances, and I send a thankful blessing to all the workers that help bring those comforts to being. I do that for all the other bills as well.

It did not take away the fact that I only have X number of dollars in the bank, but my experience is now in recognition of the gifts and abundance in my life. I am in a different flow of energy. It is no longer the stressful experience that used to put me in a bad mood, but an expansive feeling of feeling blessed.

The conditions of the situation have not changed, the amount of money is the same, but I am different about the situation. And what that means is that I am a more pleasant person to be around after the monthly task of doing the bill payments. And it causes a domino effect on the opportunities in my day, and it changed my relationship with my bank account (my feeling of not having enough money).

Instead of having a lack mentality, my abundance mentality allows me to transact differently with people and money, it helps me have clear thinking for decision making, and walk in the flow of life. Bill payment is part of life, you can’t avoid it, so why work against it and let it ruin your experience with life.

INVITATION TO LIFEWORK

What are the experiences in your life that cause a contractive feeling? Do you dread going to the dentist, or your commute, or doing the chores in your house or work?

› Identify what energy you would like to transmute.
› Set the intention on what feeling you would love instead of what you currently feel?
› Notice your thinking about the situation – what are the lack of thoughts that lead you to feel contractive?
› What thoughts can you think that would cause you to feel good about the situation.

For example –

I hate going to the dentist – I am grateful for being able to go to the dentist, and for having the money or insurance to afford it. I am grateful for the people that work in that profession. They always strive to make me feel comfortable and are helping me have a healthy, bright smile.

These positive thoughts will lead to having a positive attitude at the dentist and in turn, you may be offered better treatment, and experience overall. By having an uplifting demeanor, you will affect the workers at the dental office which may offer you better service.

I hate my commute – During this sacred time, I can listen to some pretty cool podcasts. I can have uninterrupted “me” time with my thoughts. It is awesome to have such a convenient way of getting to work using my car/ public transportation.

Sidenote – while I commuted using public transportation, I used to play a game to see how many people would smile back at me when I smiled at them. I would also change it up by greeting them with a “Good Morning or Have a great day”. This was a fun practice because along the way, I know I influenced people’s day. And in turn, they influenced mine by seeing them change.

This is a simple way to change a part of your world and experience while affecting others in a positive way.

I hate doing chores – The definition of a chore is an unpleasant but necessary task, so if you can’t avoid it why resent it? Instead, you can be grateful for the ability to do the task. It is as simple as that, you can perform it and are grateful for your body, the tools required to do it well, and thankful for the difference it will make in your environment.

REMINDER – It takes repetition and commitment to build muscle around change. You have been in a lack flow for some time, so it will take some time for transformation to occur. Do not get discouraged, stay with the work and you will discover a new you.

You can see how a small change can snowball into not only affecting you but others around you. It also does something wondrous; it allows ideas, opportunities, and synchronicities that open more abundance in your life. This is how, for instance; the flow of money into your life can change, because out of the blue you get a phone call for the dream job, or you see the opportunity of an investment.

It’s the shift in your vibration(abundance-mindset) that causes these opportunities to move toward you and to put you in touch with people to make a difference in your life.

Inviting an abundance-mindset practice in your life will lead you to live from a higher vibrational frequency. It becomes a way of being, it blends into other areas of your life, and it influences the way you are being seen by others. More importantly, it makes you feel good about your life despite the conditions and circumstances.

“When you change the way, you look at things, the things you look at change,” said the late Wayne Dyer. When you live a life from the framework of abundance, you are welcoming gratitude in and live from a place of joy and love for life. Refer to the Map of Consciousness in last week’s blog and find that these frequencies reside at the very top of the spectrum of emotional energy. Love, Joy, and Peace are the emotions where you want to spend most of your time while walking with life.
