Recognizing the Power Within

We can learn how life speaks to us through the chaos of life’s circumstances.

When you start paying attention to how life speaks to you through the life events you face, you can recognize the Power Within. I see it in my own life, and in the first chapter of my book, Living Your Intuitive Genius: How to Tap Into Your Soul to Heal Your Body, Mind, and Spirit, I highlight three examples. The first chapter is about Recognizing the Power Within.

In this first chapter, I demonstrate how despite having feelings of doubt and fear, I knew my decision to divorce was correct. I saw how an invisible power supported me. How my life was made ‘easier’ as I took steps for independence.

In this blog, I share a traumatic experience that demonstrates the practice of awareness you can use to recognize your connection with Spirit and Life.

Even in the toughest moments, you can see the hand of divine intelligence at play.

During the financial crisis of 2008, I lost my job and was hired as a credit union manager. I loved my job despite the long hours and considerably lower salary than what I had been making. One evening when I was leaving work late, I was crying on my way home, having a conversation with God

The Power of Prayer

I was sharing with God how I loved my job but wanted a position closer to home, with better hours and better pay, so I could spend time with my kids and support them as a single mom. Incredibly the phone rang from a friend asking if I was still looking for a job. I affirmed my desire, and she shared with me a job opening at her work. I emailed my resume the next day, which was a Friday. On Monday, I received a call for an interview for Wednesday.

Staying Curious and Open to Life’s Signals

As I contemplated the move to another job, I was curious about how things would turn out for me. The day before my interview, something extraordinary happened. My branch was held up at gunpoint. Along with my staff, I faced four armed men whose mission was to rob the branch.

During the process of the robbery, the event seemed to occur in slow motion. I was aware of every step, breath, word, and sound that transpired. The robbery took 2.5 minutes, yet it seemed like twenty minutes had passed.

Connecting to Something Greater than Yourself

Throughout the robbery, I felt a sense of calmness and knowing that I was protected. Despite the terror instilled by the manhandling, yelling, and desperation, I was connected to something higher. I didn’t know if I would live through it or not; I just knew that no matter what happened, I was fine.

A stillness and knowingness of “all are well” helped me stay calm, focused, and attentive to the robbers’ demands. I was the head of the branch, and everyone’s lives were in my charge. Even days after the event, my job was to ensure my staff was cared for, as we all experienced PTSD.

A New Beginning

I showed up for the interview the next day with the newspaper article in hand, asking for grace from my interviewer in case my interview did not go well. But everything went well, I was offered the job, and I walked into the next episode of my life without hesitancy.

It was not easy to leave my staff behind, but I knew that I was experiencing the hand of God leading me to a place where I would be able to provide for my kids. A workplace that was my home for more than nine years. This opportunity was everything that I had asked for in my prayers. It was 8 minutes from home, a great workplace, with better hours and pay.

How was Divine Presence in the chaos of the events?

Although I told my story in a linear account of events, the situations that occurred were chaos in motion, from my frantic tears praying for a better position, to the experience of a life-threatening incident, to the answered desire for a better job.

What was the thread that held it all together?

I can tell this story now with the benefit of hindsight. Yet while I was living through it, I had a connection to God that helped me navigate the circumstances. Being aware of my Higher Source, belief, trust, and expectation was the peace amid the storm.

There is a sacred place that exists within all of us. We must get to know it and recognize it as The Power Within.

The Power Within is your Source, the guiding hand of the divine Spirit. Intuitively I responded with calmness and recognized that ‘something’ was happening. Likewise, as you exercise your Spiritual muscle, you can discover this part of you. You can depend on it as you face life’s most harrowing journeys. You can rejoice in the inner peace that it gifts you.

There is a genius inside us, a knowingness that invisible divine intelligence is always working on our behalf.

Could you reflect on your life’s events?

I’d like you to please discover how the hand of Divine Intelligence was in those events.

Could you connect the dots to see how you’ve experienced these sacred moments?

Consider how your life unfolding has developed you into the person you are.

Discovering, Connecting, and Acknowledging are part of building your Spiritual muscle. You are exercising belief in your Higher Source and how its presence has divinely enriched your life.

The more you recognize it, the more connected you become. Recognize it daily in the beauty of life, in the breaths that you take, and in all the goodness and abundance that you see before you. Once you recognize it, celebrate it by being grateful.

Gratitude keeps you connected to the Divine.
