Stop Trying Harder
Trying harder leads to diminishing returns
Trying harder does not lead to better results; there is a point of diminishing returns when trying harder actually leads to being less effective.
Dr. Price Pritchett tells a story of a fly in the book You². The fly wants freedom outside the window, and it keeps banging, crashing, and hitting against the glass. It becomes exhausted in its desperate and obsessive actions and eventually collapses into death.
A door was wide open all along, no more than ten steps away. What was it thinking? It cannot consider alternative solutions to its dilemma. Remarkably, we have that ability, yet we tend to behave similarly in some circumstances.
We encounter a situation that we want to change, and in our course to change it, we meet with resistance. Our go-to action is to keep trying, work harder, longer hours, and be more focused; the more we try, the more we get away from the solution because we are now frustrated and at a loss on what to do next.
Same old same old
Doing more of the same generally will lead to more of the same. There are times when the harder you try, the further away from the goal you get. It is part of our culture to think that working harder will provide better results. I was raised with that mentality; my models had a hard work ethic that was infused in my upbringing. You likely experienced a similar past.
So, when you are hitting the wall, and diminishing results emerge as you continue to try, it is time to think differently.
Tony Robbins says, “If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.” There are a million ways things can occur; our paradigm only sees the one in front of us, the one that has been failing until now. Learning to think differently is key to creating the results you want, allowing you to expand, learn, and discover how gifted and resourced you are.
It Starts with Your Thinking
Since you have been trying and not manifesting what you want, the perception of the situation is part of what is defeating you. You are thinking, “this is hard,” “I’m never gonna get this right,” This is an impossible feat,” It is so exhausting that I feel it is such an uphill climb.”
Your thoughts hold the power of manifestation. If you intend to succeed, why are you speaking or thinking words of defeat?
Why are you trying harder? Meaning, are you trying, or are you doing this thing? This is a nuanced way of thinking, but if you pay attention to the word “try,” there is no power in it. The phrase try speaks about making an attempt or effort, not at accomplishing the goal.
Thinking about it differently will provide a creative perspective that draws ideas on how to get it done. Everything is energy, and the power of your thoughts is where it all starts, and ideas are born to be birthed into achievement.
It’s Time to Reflect
Unless it is a life-or-death situation where you must act, it is wiser to stop, breathe, and reflect before further actions are taken. It may seem like a waste of time, yet it will be a time and frustration saver if you take the time to ponder several questions.
› Why do I want to change this situation?
› What is my motivation?
› Is my decision for this change stemming from fear (ego) or love?
Asking these questions will help you become aligned with your higher power. For instance, if the change you are seeking is not for the highest good of all involved, then this may be the reason you are bumping your head against the wall.
My Story’s Reflection
I shared last week of a time when I kept trying harder at work because I was seeking my boss’s approval. My actions stemmed from fear of not being good enough, of not meeting the challenge and the expectations of others.
In this case, had I performed this inquiry, I believe I would have discovered that no matter what I did, the result would be the same because my boss was also acting from fear, and I was already doing my best.
Comprehending that was her issue may have led me to make a bold move to discover my purpose by listening to my intuition, or at least to honor my health.
A New Way of Finding Answers
If you discover your desire to transform the situation is because of fear, then know that the answer is always to look within and ask yourself, “What would I love? “or “What would you love to do in this situation?” You may not have immediate answers or action steps when you ask that question, but if you stay in that question moving forward, answers will come.
By following that question, you are partnering with your Source to provide ideas; you just have to remain open to hearing them. Also, understand that staying available means hearing something you already know (the voice within has been nudging you); it may be time to act.
The other thing you are doing by staying in the question is activating your imagination to come up with the scenarios that speak to your heart for this situation. Creating an image of what we would love at a time instead of what we are experiencing generates an imprint of the result we want.
Continue to dream on to that result; it can lead to the realization of the mental image you are holding. This is the art of manifestation.
The Art and Science of Creating a New Life
You may be saying at this moment – This is a lot of woo-woo. If that is the case, I encourage you to stay curious and discover that it is not. It is science, quantum physics, the study of matter and energy. Since we are part of the quantum field, we can influence it.
The art and science of creating the life you would love are what I am certified to teach. These are some of the tools I teach, and it is possible with constant dedication and repetition to change the circumstances you are facing. It takes rigor, belief, and expectation.
My Successful Manifestation
A few months ago I shared with you when I was nudged to sell my house, the end result for the vision of what I was holding on the house sale was manifested in receiving 8 offers and 25% above list price. It was very close to the sales price my husband and I held in our minds as we were in the energy of getting the house ready for sale and completing the transaction.
Steadfast Action Leads to Results
Please keep committed, engaged, and aligned to your vision. The image you are holding can become a reality if you are being nudged and ideas are given; you act on them regardless of how difficult it is for you. There will be times when fear will sneak its head in the process; acting is the energy that dissipates the voice of worry as you move forward.
Part of the formula to accelerating your dreams, or what you would love, is to have partners in believing (people who also believe what you are dreaming up is possible) and a structure of support that can assist with pointing out paradigms and hold you accountable to acting.
I would love to support you with the manifestation of your desires. It would be my honor.
I know what you can do, being, having, and giving, and these blogs are my way of encouraging you into your Becoming.
