Inner Peace

“All the water in the world cannot drown you unless it gets inside of you.”
~Eleanor Roosevelt

When my mentor Mary Morrissey talks about achieving the results you want, she likes to remind me that I may think I know how to get the results, but unless I am experiencing the results, I only know about it.

Experiencing inner peace is one of those things. You may know what inner peace is, but unless you are experiencing it, you only know about it. And you can only experience it being having practices that promote it.

After coming back from vacation, I noticed that I felt uneasy and less focused. I noticed I was also not minding my mind (generating thoughts aligned to the life I want) or paying attention to the good in my life as I had in the past. Then I noticed I was becoming critical, impatient, and irritable.

Hmmm, what caused that change in my energy? I gave myself permission to be more relaxed with some of the practices that I maintain while on vacation. And when I was back home, I didn’t automatically return to them.

Create Your Reality

This is why I am writing this blog. It is easy to stay in the negative zone and make that your reality with everything happening around us. But it can also be easy to stay positive and make that your reality when you are consistent with your daily practices.

When so much tragedy and drama surround us, it can be difficult to feel at peace. Getting caught in situations that bring you down and becoming pessimistic is easy. So, developing practices that help you stay positive and look forward to your future is worthwhile.

You can’t control what goes on but can maintain your inner peace. Eleanor Roosevelt has a famous quote, “All the water in the world cannot drown you unless it gets inside of you.”

Inner peace can’t be achieved overnight but is cultivated and nurtured through daily habits and practices. Here are a few reminders to foster some disciplines that help you feel inner peace and fulfillment.

Practice self–care

Take care of yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally. This may include getting enough sleep, eating well, exercising regularly, and engaging in activities that bring you joy.

Part of self-care is loving yourself by focusing on your strengths and accomplishments. Make a list of them as a sense of acknowledgment of the contributions you’ve already brought forth. This also serves as a reminder when you need a boost of self-confidence.

Have a daily practice that helps you connect with your higher self (Your Source/God). Perhaps meditation, walking in nature, listening to inspirational podcasts or music, prayer, journaling. I use the practices in My Morning Practices ebook.

Cultivate gratitude

Focus on what you are grateful for to form a positive outlook—keeping a gratitude journal to record your grateful state of being daily. It also serves as a chronology of the blessings in your life. And it provides awareness and recognition of how life is supporting you.

Practice forgiveness

Holding onto grudges and resentments prevents you from finding inner peace. Practicing forgiveness, both for yourself and for others. It can help you overcome these negative emotions and move forward more easily.

Engage in meaningful connections

Building strong, positive relationships can be a powerful source of inner peace. Spending time with family and friends that love and honor you. Volunteer or pursue hobbies and interests that bring you together with like-minded people. Connecting with others can help you feel more supported, understood, and fulfilled.

Connecting with your Source (God/ Spirit/ Divine) every day, at least once per day, will generate a state of inner peace. During the morning silence, after you wake up, is the best time in your day; all it takes is ten to fifteen minutes. Download my ebook, My Morning Practice: 3 Ways to Center Your Spirit, for the step-by-step process.

Incorporating these habits into your daily routine can create a more peaceful and fulfilling life. Remember, inner peace is a journey, not a destination. Cultivating takes time and effort, but the benefits are well worth it. Start small and be consistent; you’ll soon find that inner peace becomes a natural part of your daily life.

Believing in you!
