Emotions and Authentic Living

This morning, an unusual cloud of unhappiness hung over me. Rather than dismissing it with forced positivity, I decided to delve into the ‘why’ behind my feelings—an essential practice we often overlook or deny as an essential aspect of our well-being.

Emotions are energy and ignoring them only compounds the issue. The first law of thermodynamics is energy can’t be created or destroyed; it can only be transformed.

During my morning practice, I meditated on my gloominess. The revelation came when I recognized the approaching anniversary of my father’s transition six years ago. Acknowledging the grief allowed me to move beyond it, finding solace in the beautiful moments we shared toward the end of his life.

This experience led me to reflect on how often we might feel a certain way without immediately understanding why. It could be an intuitive response to a loved one’s struggles or an impending life change. Our emotions are like signals from a deep well of wisdom within us.

In a world that sometimes discourages feeling, labeling it as a weakness, vulnerability, or an inconvenience, we must embrace our emotions. They are not hindrances but guides, offering insights into who we are and what we need to navigate life.

In my book Living Your Intuitive Genius (page 214), I highlight that as I faced my own emotional turbulence before cancer, a nature walk revealed that I was transitioning into a new phase. Despite the uncertainty, I felt connected to a higher power assuring me that “all is well.”

Here are three ways to become more attuned to your feelings. Make a date with yourself to isolate the time and feelings so they don’t spill over into your day. It’s a way of having your feelings but not letting them have you.

The great thing about these practices is that you can continue your day and still honor yourself and your feelings. So, your subconscious knows you are not ignoring the emotions; you have plans to meet them on Saturday morning (an opportune time).

📖Journaling:

When feeling down, spend thirty minutes journaling. Pose questions to prompt the flow of thoughts—Why am I feeling sad/ angry/ emotional? What can I learn from these emotions? Unraveling these feelings may require multiple sessions.

🍂Nature Walks:

Take a silent walk or hike in nature with a clear intention. Bring a notepad or phone to capture inspired thoughts. Set your goal—finding answers, solutions, or a better understanding of your feelings. Sharing your experience with a trusted person provides additional perspectives. I did this while on my walk into nature before the cancer diagnosis; my husband was there to support me.

❤️‍🔥Do What You Love:

Engage in joyful activities—dance, listen to music, draw, or garden. Connect with your inner genius by filling your soul with what you love to do and intending to learn more or receive the information you seek. It’s a powerful way to tune into your authentic self.

Connecting with emotions and inner wisdom may not come naturally, mainly if you’re not accustomed to it. I’ve observed clients overwhelmed by stacked emotions, unsure of what is happening or how they got there. The great news is that we work together to uncover hidden aspects through a program and process, fostering authenticity and confidence. Give me a call or email if you want to learn more.

Becoming authentic is a transformative process. It requires the courage to explore and understand oneself, leading to a more confident and genuine presence. Embrace the journey of self-discovery—an invitation to live authentically and align with your most authentic self.

Believing in You!
