Become More, Do Less: Crush Goals and Transform
“Success is not to be pursued; it is to be attracted by the person you become.”~ Jim Rohn
Your 2025 Goals: It’s Not What You Do, It’s Who You Become
As 2025 approaches, many of us are setting new goals, thinking about the steps we’ll take to achieve them. But here’s something you might not have considered: success is not just about what you do—it’s about who you become. The key to achieving your goals lies in transforming into the person who naturally attracts the outcomes you desire.
If you’ve ever thought, “I’m just the way I am,” and felt that change was out of reach, let me share a personal story.
Growth Through StrengthsFinder
Years ago, in my corporate career, I took Gallup’s StrengthsFinder test. This assessment highlights your top talents out of 34 possible strengths. At the time, my results were Empathy, Connectedness, and Maximizer—traits that matched who I was. I loved connecting with people and helping them reach their potential.
Fast forward to a more recent moment when I retook the test. The results? A shift! My new strengths included Positivity, Intellection, and Developer, with Connectedness still in the mix. This change confirmed something I’ve always believed: our strengths evolve over time. We are not static. We are capable of growth and transformation.
This shift mirrors my own journey from corporate life to becoming a coach. I’ve evolved, and I continue to grow each day—proof that we are not locked into one version of ourselves.
You Can Change Who You Become
Why is this important? Because many of us believe we’re stuck. We think change is impossible, but it’s not. I’ve seen it in myself, and I’ve seen it in my clients. One client, for example, has navigated multiple careers, developed new skills, and watched her StrengthsFinder results change dramatically, illustrating her growth.
Here’s something else I want you to consider: I once admired a colleague’s leadership skills. I studied her methods, practiced them, and over time, I became a similar leader. This didn’t happen overnight, but change began with a choice—the choice to become more like the person I admired.
Four Steps to Becoming Who You Want to Be
So, if you’ve ever thought, “I wish I could be more like that,” know that you can be. Here are four steps to help you start embracing the qualities you admire:
- Pay Attention: Become aware of your current habits and patterns without judgment. Identify what’s holding you back and the traits you want to cultivate.
- Pause: When an old habit rears its head, pause. Take a breath. This is your opportunity to choose a new response. The discomfort you feel is part of the growth process.
- Lean In: Visualize your ideal self. How would that version of you act in certain situations? Replay that image in your mind and begin practicing those behaviors in real life.
- Repeat and Refine: Change doesn’t happen overnight. Keep practicing. Each attempt builds toward the new version of you, and eventually, it will become second nature.
